Valuation mark
The value a fund assigns to an unlisted holding at a reporting date.
Funds mark private holdings to fair value, commonly following the IPEV Valuation Guidelines. Approaches include the price of a recent round adjusted for what has happened since, multiples of comparable companies, and discounted cash flows.
A recent round is not always fair value. Liquidation preferences, the passage of time and a change in performance can all justify a mark above or below the last price.
