Due diligence
The investigation an investor or acquirer carries out before committing capital.
Commercial, financial, legal and technical diligence test whether the company is what it says it is: whether revenue is real and recurring, the forecast achievable, the contracts sound and the technology defensible.
Most of the time goes on assembling evidence from documents, calls and outside data. The judgement comes at the end, when the findings are weighed against the investment case.
