Investment thesis
A firm’s view of where returns will come from, and the criteria an investment must meet.
At firm level, a thesis sets the sectors, stages, business models and themes the firm backs. At deal level, it is the argument for why this company will return capital, and what would have to be true for that to happen.
A written thesis makes screening consistent and gives the IC memo something to test the deal against.
